Namibia is a region that the Europeans arrived to in the middle of the 15th Century, an era in which Bartolomeu Dias stepped foot on this land and found himself surrounded by the Namib Desert. Since then, Namibia is an area that is in the middle of the desert and thus so, practically unpopulated. This is a place reclaimed by Portugal, but later came the Germans, English, Dutch... all of them afterthe 15th Centur, when the Portuguese came to the area. From its earlier era, the history of Namibia before the 15th Century, very little is known.

Diego Cao was a Portuguese sailor that united with Bartolomeu Dias and arrived at what we now know today to be Namibia, in the 15th century, almost arriving at the 16th century. Since then until up to today, Namibia was converted into a rest stop for ships heading toward the south, boardering the Cape of Good Hope and went up towards the Indies. Namibia was an important point of passage for whale hunters, traders, and adventurers. In this time, in the 16th century, cities like Walvis Bay and Sandwich Bay came into being, although at the beginning, they were only points of reference along the journey. This situation was prolonged until the end of the 18th century. Later in the 19th century, the Dutch arrived to these land and reclaimed the lands that wee considered part of what today is South Africa, but before, it was the Germans that were established here, and later passed to the hands of South Africa. Later, the English came to annex the land and its surroundings, later the Germans, who first colonized the coasts, and later, after confrontations with German troops, the land went back to the Germans. At this moment, the Conference of Berlin decided on the dissolution of the African colonies.

It was at this conference when the Chancellor Von Bismarck succeeded at getting European colonies out of Africa, and only keeping for Germany the lands of Togo, Camerun, Eastern Africa, and Namibia. A peace treaty was signed and the Germans sent troops to Africa that afterwards couldn't help out in WWI.

The beginning of the 20th Century was full of conflicts in the area. The Europeans fought for different colonies, and the colonies fought for their independence. It was the beginning of what later would be called the decolonization. During WWI, that never came to Africa, the French, German, Belgians, Porguguese, British, and Italians fought against occult interests, and it is because of this, through WWI, South Africa took advantage of the German weakness at this moment and took Namibia, something that years later reinforced after WWII, took Namibia Apartheid.

In the 1960's, protests began about the occupation of South Africa in Namibia, and was an energetic protest that got forces through the South West Africa National Union, or SWAPO, who began to disagree with the actions of South Africa in Namibia. Other countries such as Ethiopia or Libya, also began the path to denouncing the xenophobic practice of South Africa, and in 1965, a war was made against South Africa on behalf of SWAPO. It was Angola, Libya, Nimibia against South Africa, and supported by the Portuguese. In 1968, this territory was baptized as Namibia, something that already seemed unchangeable. In 1978, ONU declared the South African occupation of Namibia to be illegal. South Africa did not accept, and the armed conflict continued in the region.

From the middle of the 19th Century until 1990, Namibia was part of South Africa. During the time of Apartheid that had a devastating effect on South Africa, during decades was also installed in these lands, but the international pressure made that the South African regime finally permitted the independence of Namibia in 1990. After this date, the country began a process of change and development. Not in vain, it entered into the Commonwealth, amongst other things.

The economy of this country has formed around the mines of uranium, gold, diamonds, which are its main source of income.
